Our 5 Secrets to Fighting the Frizz

Are you having trouble dealing with frizzy and dry hair in this summer heat? With the humidity and rising heat here in Seattle, it's definitely not friendly for frizzy hair. Here are some of our best tips to help keep the frizz at bay and make your hair look smooth all day long!

1. Avoid the towel rub!

Using a towel to rub and dry your hair will rid the hair of the moisture it needs and mess up the hair follicles. Make sure to PAT your hair dry and also use a less abrasive towel. A microfiber towel like the Aquis Lisse Luxe Turban, $30, is the way to go if you want your hair to dry with minimal damage.

2. Avoid the sulphates and go GREEN

Sulfates are known to be drying agents in many hair products. They rip your hair of the moisture it needs when washing or styling your hair.  All of our organic and natural shampoos that we carry are sulfate-free and free of harsh chemicals. Our favorite shampoos for the frizz are the Rahua Hydrating Shampoo, $34 and Conditioner, $36 and the Davines Love Smoothing Shampoo, $28 and conditioner, $32.

3. Lots of Deep Conditioning!

In order to keep frizz at bay, it's important to keep your hair moisturized so it can stay smooth in any weather. Deep conditioning with a hair mask or leave-in treatment can be a great way to give yourself some self care twice a week and make sure you can control your hair. A few of our favorite treatments are the Reverie Milk Anti-Frizz Leave In, $42 and the Leonor Greyl Masque Orchidee, $65.

4. Serums and Oils can be life-savers

For days when you don't have time to put in a deep conditioning treatment or you need a quick savior for your hair, use a serum or oil! Serums are great as they add instant moisture with natural oils and won't drag the hair down. The Davines Oi Oil, $23 and Reverie Cake, $72 are both serums that are deeply nourishing and contain anti-frizz benefits.

5. Brush Your Hair the Right Way

It's important to know when to brush your hair and still prevent the frizz. Never, ever brush your hair dry. The best times to brush your hair are before you shower so you can get the most out of your shampoo and conditioning and after the shower with a wide-tooth comb. These minimize the frizz yet will also help optimize the smoothing agents of your styling treatments, shampoos and conditioners. One of our favorites is a natural bristle brush that helps distribute your hairs natural oils and smooth.
