Finding Your Perfect Brush: A Guide to Our Hairbrushes
Not all hairbrushes are created equal — and the right one can make a huge difference in the health, shine, and style of your hair. At Sarah Kahn Hair, we've carefully curated a collection of brushes for every hair type, texture, and goal. Here's a breakdown to help you find your perfect match.
For Detangling: Shiela Stotts Untangle Brush
✅ Use on: Wet or Dry Hair

If knots and tangles are your nemesis, this is your brush. The Untangle Brush works on wet or dry hair for all hair types, featuring gentle metal bristles on a flexible rubber cushion that glide through tangles without snagging. It's also extension-friendly — the anti-static metal teeth never catch on attachment points. A must-have for anyone who dreads wash day.
For Gentle, Breakage-Free Brushing: Manta Healthy Hair Brush
Use on: Wet or Dry Hair

Originally created by professional hairdresser Tim Binnington for his wife during her recovery from hair loss, the Manta Healthy Hair Brush is one of the most thoughtful tools we carry. Its flexible, palm-sized design molds to the shape of your hand and scalp, reducing tension and minimizing snags. The bendy TPEE bristles are ultra-gentle, making it ideal for fine, fragile, thick, curly, coily hair — and even kids and extension wearers.
For Shine & Natural Oil Distribution: Stella Brush
Use on: Dry Hair Only

This is a true salon favorite. We love the Stella Brush for its ability to enhance your hair's natural oils, distributing them from scalp to ends for the most luscious, healthy hair possible. It's also fantastic for brushing out waves and giving hair that effortlessly polished look. Stop by the salon or grab one online — your hair will thank you.
For Blowouts: True Ceramic Round Brush
Use on: Damp to Dry Hair (with heat)

This is the brush we reach for again and again in the salon. With three layers of true ceramic coating and ionic, anti-static bristles, the True Ceramic Round Brush delivers maximum shine, controls flyaways, and stands up to heat styling. If you're serious about your blowout, this is your tool. We use this brush behind the chair and love how it is large enough not to get caught in the hair. 10/10.
The Workhorse: Paddle Brush
Use on: Wet Hair

When it comes to drying wet hair, nothing beats the Paddle Brush. Heat resistant and built to last, it's our go-to for smoothing and detangling through the blow dry process. Its large surface area covers more hair with every stroke, cutting down your drying time and leaving hair sleek and smooth. A true workhorse — and a salon staple for good reason.
For the Perfect Brush On the Go: Yves Durif
Use on: Dry Hair

When you want something that performs and looks stunning, Yves Durif delivers. Born from over 45 years of hairstyling expertise — from Paris to the iconic Carlyle Hotel in New York — these are quite simply some of the best brushes we've ever used. Elegant, effective, and virtually indestructible, they're the perfect companion whether you're traveling or just want a touch of luxury in your daily routine. Perfect brush to throw in your bag for on the go!
How to Keep Your Brushes Clean — It Matters More Than You Think
A clean brush is a better performing brush. Product buildup, oils, and shed hair can all reduce your brush's effectiveness and even transfer back onto clean hair. Here's how to keep each type in its best shape. Clean brushes are happiest!
- Remove hair after every use. Use a comb or your fingers to pull out trapped strands from the bristles. This takes 10 seconds and makes a big difference.
- For plastic & rubber brushes (like the Untangle Brush, Healthy Hair Brush, and Paddle Brush): Fill a bowl with warm water and a few drops of gentle shampoo. Swirl the brush in the water, use an old toothbrush to scrub between the bristles, rinse thoroughly, and lay flat to dry with bristles facing down on a towel.
- For boar bristle & natural bristle brushes (like the Stella Brush): Use minimal water — too much can damage natural bristles. Instead, in a shallow dish mix water with a little vinegar and soak for 20 mins being careful not to submerge the wood. Allow to air dry bristle-side down.
- For round brushes (like the True Ceramic Round Brush): Remove hair carefully with a tail comb, then wipe bristles with a damp cloth and mild cleanser. Avoid submerging — water can loosen the barrel over time.
- For luxury brushes (like Yves Durif): Generally, a gentle wipe-down and careful hair removal after each use will keep them looking and performing beautifully for years.
How often? We recommend a quick hair removal after every use and a deeper clean every month or so depending on how much product you use.
